Motherhood is full of moments: some good, some bad, and some that make you want to laugh and cry at the same time. This is one of those moments.
It is a typical Thursday afternoon in my life as a SAHM. I am hanging up the laundry in my son and daughter’s room. My 6-month-old daughter lays on a blanket on the floor, surrounded by toys. My 17-month-old toddler prances around, clutching his penguin sippy cup full of milk.
Penguin Sippy Cup. Highly recommended.
I turn my back for an instant as I proceed to hang up the clean shirts, onesies, and sleepers. All the sudden I hear a “bang bang” and turn around to see my daughter crying hysterically, a big red bump on her forehead. My son rears back to clobber his sister with his sippy cup for a 3rd time, and I rush in and pull him away from her, yelling “no.” (To be honest, I wanted to slap him in that instant, but instead I take him across the hallway and shut him in the laundry room for a quick timeout.)
When my son realizes that he is shut in the laundry room, he starts screaming. In the meantime, I return to the bedroom to pick up my daughter and try and calm her, since she is still crying hysterically.
As if two crying babies are not enough, my cat strolls up the hallway between the bedroom and laundry room, gagging, before he proceeds to throw up all over the carpet.
All I can think is, yes, it is one of those days…
